My name is Martin M. Herman, and I'm a criminal defence counsel.
In practice at the same location for over 35 years, I represent individuals charged with offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Controlled Drug and Substance Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and various other pieces of federal legislation, including the Tax Act and the Customs Act.
I also prepare wills and powers of attorney, and I can represent you on the purchase or sale of your home or cottage. Additionally, I offer both notary public and Commissioner of Oath services.
Throughout my career, I've represented clients in New York City, New Brunswick and in every corner of Ontario. Because I'm in York Region, over 70 percent of my business occurs at the Newmarket Courthouse, which handles all criminal matters for York Region.
The Newmarket Courthouse is MY courthouse; it's where I work. I know the crowns and judges, and I know when to bargain and when to fight. My clients often hire me because they feel I can be most effective at the Newmarket Courthouse.
The best way to hire a lawyer is to be referred to one who has successfully helped a friend or associate.
Most of my business comes from referrals, and I've practiced in Richmond Hill my entire career.
I mainly handle those offences which occasionally creep into the lives of regular citizens
- Impaired driving - Domestic assaults - Drugs
I also represent clients charged with all offences
- From shoplifting to murder
- Drinking and driving and domestic abuse offences I see most.
