Biography

My name is Martin M. Herman, and I'm a criminal defence counsel.

In practice at the same location for over 35 years, I represent individuals charged with offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Controlled Drug and Substance Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and various other pieces of federal legislation, including the Tax Act and the Customs Act.

I also prepare wills and powers of attorney, and I can represent you on the purchase or sale of your home or cottage. Additionally, I offer both notary public and Commissioner of Oath services.

Throughout my career, I've represented clients in New York City, New Brunswick and in every corner of Ontario. Because I'm in York Region, over 70 percent of my business occurs at the Newmarket Courthouse, which handles all criminal matters for York Region.

The Newmarket Courthouse is MY courthouse; it's where I work. I know the crowns and judges, and I know when to bargain and when to fight. My clients often hire me because they feel I can be most effective at the Newmarket Courthouse.
